Modern Alnwick still retains much of its original character. The cobbled streets, narrow alleys and grand stone buildings provide a wonderful backdrop for a stroll through the town. Many of the old houses are now home to a selection of specialist shops as well as cafes and other watering holes.
The recently refurbished Market Place is the centre for local events including Alnwick Fair and the International Music Festival. A Farmers Market is held here on the last Friday of each month.
The countryside around Alnwick is great for walking, cycling and fishing, and the nearby coast has over 20 miles of golden sands, rocky outcrops and sand dunes.
